We're All In This Together Gabby Young a classically trained and from Wiltshire is backed by her 8-piece band Other Animals covers a wide gamut of the musical genre. As they successfully combine pop, folk, and indie pop laced with succulent jazz flavours. ‘Whose House’ for one has not produces a varied sound as a carnival-esque feel is added to the usual hustle and bustle, complete with rousing harmony vocals to go with her expansive vocal tones.
Gabby not only leads the band on vocals but, she also plays guitar and on the vaudeville leaning ‘Ladies Of Lake’ from their debut album, We’re All In This Together on Gift Of the Gab records ‘musical’ saw. Yes, Gabby Young and the Other Animals are special, and as far as music is concerned ‘Ask You A Question’ doused in accordion, brass, strings and vocal harmonies it could just as easily have come from a Bavarian gypsy band who would sound no better. For the Other Animals and Young are that good, and who at full tilt can’t help but win you over with the quality and enthusiasm of their efforts.
Young can be seductive as she entwines you with her vocals, plus with her long red haired and petite entertainer is likewise very much a visual attraction too. For which those lucky enough to catch her live will readily vouch as her love of drama and the extravert part of her character is underlined as freedom is given. With a wonderful good to be alive feel running through their music and great innovative flair the listener is well entertained. A vocalist for all seasons, Young delivers the happy in love or the world weary ‘Too Young To Die’ is such fashion the listener’s attention is held firm. Never more is the case than when she Gabby holds court as she sings ‘Maybe’, yet even then she brings in a feast of different sounds. That to someone of lesser talent would be suicidal since it would take the spotlight away from the vocalist! But not the impressive and often eclectic Ms Young. With already a list of festival appearances to their name - Glastonbury, The Secret Garden and the Marlborough Jazz Festival Gabby they are most certainly on their way. Not bad for the wee girl from rural Wiltshire, who after a set back or two is now riding the crest of a wave and set to keep creating more waves of her making for some time to come. www.gabbyyoungandotheranimals.com
