Crucify | Listen Here Screaming Ballerinas emerged from the London club scene in a cascade of glitter and lip gloss, laden with a clutch of tunes that contained more hooks than Abu Hansa at a Pirates of The Caribbean fancy dress party. In an age when many Indie bands resemble mucky faced urchins who would happily relieve your granny of her pension given half the chance, it’s refreshing to see musicians with a sense of style who take a pride in their appearance, and actually look like real “pop stars.”
Of course style over content can often be a bands downfall but rest assured Screaming Ballerinas sound as good as they look and in singer Laura Trouble they have a vocalist whose crystal clear vocals can convey sweetness and menace in equal measure. The anthemic 'Crucify' shows them at their most incendiary and when Laura sings “Just you wait, just you wait,” you’re not quite sure if it’s a threat or you're on a promise!† Other songs in their arsenal such as 'Jessica' and 'Take Me On' sound like Debbie Harry's younger sister simultaneously discovery Siouxsie and A-ha whereas 'Daydream' ventures into 60’s girl group pop. If there are any A&R men out their worth their salt , then they should be knocking loudly at this bands door with a five album record deal at the ready, thereby enabling a wider audience to be drawn into their glittering web of sexy, stylish new-wave pop. If you’ve had your fill of earnest young men with guitars pretending to be The Jam and singing about bus stops then its time to open your ears to the infectious glitzy sound that is Screaming Ballerinas. www.myspace.com/screamingballerinas
